There are those who dream of glory and adulation from wildly enthusiastic fans as they follow their hero’s every note and gesture on stage. Then, in more sober moments, they come to realise that playing a musical instrument takes practice and hard work. However, the instant gratification that comes with playing your favorite tunes really well is only a moment away for those who are realistic in the beginning and start with easy piano lessons.
In this article, you will learn the essential lessons of being a realistic beginner when it comes to learning to play the piano.
The problem faced by most would-be piano playing superstars is that they want to be able to play like their heroes from the very first day. Whilst it may seem obvious that only the super talented can play a note perfect piece of music as soon as they pick up an instrument, many beginners still start in the middle rather than at the beginning. That is, they pick arrangements of their favorite tunes which are far too advanced and certainly not written with beginners in mind.
However, the good news is that the piano is one of the easiest instruments to play. So, if you are a new to the piano, it is possible to play your favorite tunes very quickly indeed, if only you learn to lower your ambitions at first.
These days, easy piano lessons come in many forms. They should not be mistaken for single note arrangements of nursery rhymes or ancient classic folk tunes that mean nothing to people growing up in the twenty-first century. But to say an arrangement is easy does not mean it doesn’t take a bit of time to learn. And although it is possible to begin a musical career, or even a hobby, and not be able to read music, it is advisable to learn at least some of the basic building blocks used in putting music together, especially the most common scales and chords.
Here are 2 very good reasons to learn and regularly practice scales and chords:
1. Practicing scales regularly makes your hands and fingers more supple and increases the speed at which you can play.
2. Practicing chords regularly enables you to stretch your hands further across the keyboard. If you are an adult beginner, you will probably be able to stretch either hand across a single octave without too much difficulty. With the right hand, this can be achieved by placing your thumb on middle C and stretching your hand to place your little finger on the C note one octave higher. Now, keeping your thumb on middle C, try to stretch your little finger to the E note above the C note. Unless you have particularly large hands (or a keyboard with very small notes), it’s probably a lot harder to do.
Increasing your reach gives you more versatility as a musician.
In the beginning you will not be able to play notes fast or play chords that demand huge stretches of your hands across the keyboard. This will come in time.
Despite this, however, you will be able to play your favorite tunes well, providing you find easy arrangements of them. If you take piano lessons, your teacher will make a judgement as to how simple the arrangements of the music you want to play should be. If, on the other hand, you can’t afford piano lessons and intend to try to teach yourself, remember to start at the beginning and not in the middle.
CONCLUSION
For those who are new to learning to play a musical instrument, there is nothing worse than being too ambitious from the start. It saps your enthusiasm and may put you off playing before you’ve even begun. So make sure you find simple arragements that are easy to learn, even if they do appear to be a long way short of the sound you want to achieve.
It’s far better to start playing simple tunes that you can learn, and other people can recognise, and then gradually work your way up to more complex arrangements as your hands become better able to cope with the demands of the music.
You are far more likely to realise your ambition of being adored on stage by hordes of fans and admirers, if you start with easy piano lessons that give you a better chance of staying the course. And remember, keep practicing scales and chords, because this is the way to being able to play faster and more complex pieces of music.
